Week 45: Compassvale, Singapore

The Chronicles of Compassvale

Como nacho (that is Bangla for how's it cracking?) everyone! This was a little bit of a harder week but good nonetheless.

Most of the week was pretty normal. On Tuesday, Elder Stone and I gave a training on how to build trust with members, which was fun. We drew up a Monkey on the board and somehow tied it to missionary work!

On Friday, I had interviews with the mission president which was really nice! I hadn't been into his office since my first week, so it was weird to be back there nine months later.

And then on Saturday, we did a mini mission with the stake, which meant that Elder Stone and I took out two priests from Singapore to go out with us. We contacted people on the MRT on the way to an appointment that was an hour away (my priest companion wasn't a big fan of talking to people about Jesus on the subway, so I mostly did it myself) and then we went to a teaching lesson. The family are members, but they pretended to be a really fervent Christian couple...it was fun to watch the priests teach about the Book of Mormon.

As for the people, it was a pretty rough week. Sabrina ended up blocking us on Whatsapp, which was really hard. We felt like we had made so much progress with her, and then when she blocked us it really hurt. We got home that night and just kinda slumped on the couch. Plus, Debbie, Michelle, and Alex Roger (a nice Malay guy we are teaching) all didn't show up to church. But, the Wong family was there, and they actually wore church clothes. It was really great to see them there.

However, I really like this scripture (Romans 8:16-18):

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

We are the children of God, and so we are heirs of God. That doesn't mean we are not going to suffer, but if we take our sufferings well, the glory that we will receive will be way more than our sufferings! I guess hard days is just part of life, but if we take them well the Lord will recompense us so much more than we can imagine.

I love you all so much! Thanks for all that you do to support me! I hope you had a great week as well.

Best,
Elder Weatherford

P. S. There are Phantom of the Opera posters all around Singapore because it is showing her in the local theater. It is so tempting!!
