Week 76: Illusion of Ipoh

Wow, this has been one of the craziest Weeks I have had in my whole entire life!

On Tuesday, I flew to KL and met up with the Ipoh Elders. On Wednesday, we had our MLC which we skyped into from KL. It was a fun long meeting where everyone talked about the new Missionary handbook and how the Mission is doing. Plus, we ate pizza Imbetween which was super fun. Then on Wednesday night, Elder Blackwelder and I took a train back to Ipoh.

That is When it started to get crazy. Malaysia is just a world and a half apart from Singapore, and I think I got used to the nice cozy Singapore life. Biking is so fun, but I had two flat tires this week and it is so Sweaty haha. Plus there were two times this week we wanted to go door knocking but it was pouring rain so we biked through the rain to a mall and by the time we got there we were soaked. One day I grabbed my tie to squeeze the water out and it looked like I turned a faucet on haha. Plus there was one day someone turned an aircon on above me and three cockroaches fell out onto me and then scurried under the couch.

But that's enough of the crazy Malaysia stories. Ipoh is doing good, the branch is definitely doing better than it was a while ago. It was fun to see a lot of the people I met last time in Ipoh, especially Herbert who is now baptized. He is such a cutie!

We are teaching this cool guy named Gordan who came to church and we are still working with Dashwen and his Brothers, who want to get baptized When their oldest Brother gets home from his mission in June.

Overall I am very grateful to be back in Ipoh. It has been a great chance to see how I have grown over the past Nine months but also how I have stayed the same person. I look forward to making the most out of my time here in Ipoh and help the people the best I can.

I can never express how much I appreciate your love and Prayers. I definitely needed them and I definitely saw them pay off. Honestly, the first couple days here in Ipoh were hard. I was used to talking to people from China (who I love) and living with Elder Strong (who I love) and living in Singapore (A place that I love), and then all of a sudden it was just me and a new Companion and it felt kinda lonely. It kinda felt like how I felt When I was at a sleepover and someone else's house and I couldn't sleep. But luckily I was so tired I conked out fast enough.

But since then it has gotten a lot better. I am training myself to look for the small things that make the days worth it. I love Ipoh, and I hope that I stay here for a long time. I may end my mission here, which is pretty Crazy to think about. That day gets closer and closer that I get to hug my mama!!!

I really like Elder Blackwelder. He is one of ten kids, he is from a farm in Idaho, and he works really really hard. He has been in Ipoh for 5 months already, so he will probably leave soon.

Overall it was a crazy week but a good week. I am grateful to be in Ipoh with 90 days and to be with a good Companion and to be able to pray and sometimes cry and really connect with God and feel his love as I am biking away my life in a Muslim country.

I love you all so much! I hope that you are having a jolly Christmas Season and that you can feel my love. Enjoy the snow for me!

Best,
Elder Weatherford
